Forest-X is, in the simplest sense, a trail race. There is a start, a finish, and a marked path to guide competitors from one to the other. Unlike other races, competitors may choose not to follow the marked route. In other words, a clever runner can outsmart their competitors by finding shortcuts. The only requirement is that every racer visit 10 checkpoints marked along route in sequential order. Every racer will be provided with a map at the start, indicating where along the course each checkpoint is (see Programs>Forest-X Maps for course maps). Of course, for those just looking to get out and do a 5 or 10km race, it is always fine to follow the marked route and run as hard as you can. ——— This fall will see 2 Forest-X races on either side of Long Pond in the Middlesex Fells Reservation. Prizes will be awarded to the male and female winners of each race, as well as the man and woman with the fastest combined time over both races. ——— The entry fee is $20 for each race, or $35 for both.
