With driving rain on Friday, I was nervous about Saturday – but we ended up dry all day! Roughly 300 youth and adult participated, doing a mix of teaching courses, regular White/Yellow/Orange, doing pace counts, and playing in the big field.

Most folks went out with an instructor on one of the 3 Teaching Courses, short 700m courses with a variety of controls that ranged from White to almost Orange (yes, some enthusiastic youth really did choose to cross the mushy swamp infested with green briar instead of taking the trail!).

About 24 groups went out on each of White A and White B, 15-28 groups on each of Yellow A & Yellow B and 17 brave groups went out on Orange. Total starts were 108.

A huge thank you to instructors Channon Ames, Doug Sevon, Ed Baldwin, Xevi Fradera, Jim Paschetto, Mark O'Connell, and special thanks to Lex & Pete Bundshuh, who drove all the way from Colorado just to help out! Given the fact we didn't have to do any search & rescue, they apparently all did a great job :-).

The event wouldn't have worked at all without Julie Baldwin organizing registration; Pam Smith, Masha Bloom & Bruce Wester, who deftly handled Starts & Finishes using a random mix of pin punching and QRienteering; and Pete Lane who did everything from controlling parking chaos to getting folks to fill out the pin punch cards correctly. Extra thanks to Pam and Julie for satisfying snacks to keep the volunteers fueled.

Additional thanks to Pete, Doug & Mark for showing up at 7:30am to finish hanging controls, Jim P & Mark O for all the tech support, and the folks at Hale Education for being so nice to work with.

The White, Yellow, Orange (plus advanced courses Brown, Green & Ziggy) will be up until sunset on Sunday April 28, 2023. All the extra copies of the maps are at the gate attendant hut if you need more. Please feel free to come back & try another course.
