NEOC: Wanderings - Bike and Foot Event
Saturday, September 03, 2016, 10:00am
Belmont and Watertown, and parts of Newton and Waltham, MA
9:00 A.M.—9:30 A.M.
1 1/2 hr or 3 hr on foot or on bike, or a challenging 4 1/2 hr combo
The 5th running of the Wanderings will be flatter than last year. The 1:25000 map has been extended to the Mass Pike on the south and Rt. 128 on the west, including the Charles River lakes, Brandeis University, and Prospect Hill Park. The meet will be a score-O with 56 controls, with 9 of the controls on trails in various forests. Mass start for all divisions at 10:00 A.M. I will post meet and map notes, and start location toward the end of August.
This is a way to get a good day's workout while easing into orienteering for the fall season. Beginners or walkers are welcome. The event is ideal for bikers, with a mix of hills, level streets, bike paths, and dirt trails.
Pre-registration is not required, but to insure that I have enough maps printed, i would appreciate an email
from everybody who might come with a simple "I'm running/biking the Wanderings.". I will reply to your email with the course/map notes. Thanks.
Start is at Lowell Playground in Waltham: corner of Clark St. and Hastings St.
