Date: Sunday, June 23, 2013

A warm welcome to members of NECKRA- the New England Canoe and Kayak Racing Association- for whom this is a NECKRA Flatwater Point Series event.

Location: DCR’s Lake Park (South Gate), Worcester, MA

Embargo Area: All bodies of water within 5 miles of Lake Park are off-limits until the event.

Directions: Set your car GPS to 300 Bridle Path, Worcester 01604  (do not misspell it Bridal)

From I-290 Exit 14, Go East on MA-122 (Grafton St) for 0.5 miles and bear left on Hamilton St. Continue for 1.7 miles and turn right on Lake Ave. In 0.3 miles turn left on Coburn Ave. The gate will be on the left.

DCR Parking Fee: $5 per car MAY apply

Entry Fee: Free to NEOC members, all others $10 per person

Registration and Starts: Registration will be open from 10AM to noon. You may start any time between 10 and 12:30 subject to 2 minute spacing.

Boats: All muscle-powered craft are eligible. NECKRA classes will be recorded for the NECKRA point series.

Maps: 1-12500 scale color, printed on waterproof Teslin paper.

“Score-O” format: There will be 15 controls (orienteering map locations) each worth one point. Visit the controls in any order however you must go to #15 last. The boat, regardless of class, with the most points in the shortest time will be the New England Champion. In addition to the championship, we'll award prizes to the fastest times for 5 and 12 controls.

Special considerations: 1) For safety reasons our planned beach launching area had to be closed. The new site is an embankment with a shin-depth put-in so start and finish will in the water. 2) Motor boat activity will be a factor and may influence your boat selection.

Footwear: Flip-flops and bare feet are inadequate for canoe-o. Old sneakers, water shoes or sturdy sandals are strongly recommended.

Life jackets: A US Coast Guard approved life jacket must be in the boat for each person.

Prizes: New England Championship t-shirts will be awarded to all teams getting all controls within 100 minutes and to the 5 and 12 control winners. The New England Champions will also receive a cheesy trophy.

Rental Boats: There are no canoe or kayak rentals available at this year's site.  The meet director can bring a small number of his own single and tandem canoes he will loan to meet helpers who make arrangements in advance.

Restrooms: Yes
