Map Scale: 1:3500
Contour Interval: 2 meters
Come orienteering at a beautiful neighborhood park in Arlington, MA. Registration and start instructions will be located just past the kiosk on the Jason Street park entrance. The registration information is hanging from a tree located just past the kiosk.
You will need to download a map (see below) and bring it to the park. Each PDF map will have a course drawn on it; your goal is to find each of the checkpoints (controls) marked by circles on your map, in the correct order. At each control site in the park you will find an orange and white orienteering flag with a number on top as well as a QR code. You can use your smart phone to scan the QR codes at each control, and record your time and result, or you can record your time using your own watch and upload it later. You can also just enjoy navigating around the park with no timing device.
This event has three different course options
White (1.0 km, 8 controls) - beginner level 1
Yellow (1.5 km, 11 controls) - beginner level 2
Orange (3.5, 23 controls) - intermediate
Beginners: The white course is the best place to start if you are a beginner. The control flags are visible from the trail or open fields. If you want another challenge after completing the white course, the next step up is the yellow course. Yellow course controls are still generally visible from trails but more route planning is needed between checkpoints.
Experienced orienteers: A double-sided orange level course is available for those seeking an intermediate-level navigational challenge.
Download course maps. A color printer is highly recommended. Course Maps are free for NEOC members. Course maps cost $5 per individual or group participant. [Note: Controls won’t be set until the morning of Oct 17].
Final, consolidated results (both self-timed & QR-code) will be posted soon after this event ends.
Note: Parking is on neighborhood streets. Please obey all Parking signs, and respect driveways.
