Great Brook Farm State Park
String, White, Yellow, Orange, Brown, Green, Red
Enjoy the beginning of fall at this classic venue, with a full range of courses for all skill levels.
Beginners are especially welcome at this event, and instruction will be provided. No special equipment is needed, just good walking shoes and a sense of adventure. Wear the clothes you would for a hike or run in a local park. Bring a compass, if you have one, or borrow a loaner from NEOC. Head out onto a course at your own pace – walk, jog or run. Orienteering is an easy sport to learn, accessible to all ages and abilities, and ideal for families who enjoy the outdoors.
For the youngest children, a very short, free, “String-O” course is available right around the Ski Barn. Children love to show their parents how to follow the string to the Orienteering flags and put colorful stickers on their simplified map.
Registration is at the Ski Barn any time between 10 a.m. and noon. Fees are $5 per map for beginner-level courses and $10 for more advanced courses, and free for NEOC members. There also is the usual $2 parking fee to Great Brook Farm State Park.
The event will be held rain or shine. Bring your family or a friend and share in the fun!
