RouteGadget does its magic using the Java client on your computer. The Java client has been found repeatedly to have security problems, which could allow a hacker to take control of your computer (to steal passwords without your knowledge, for example).

To be safe:

• Keep current with updates to your operating system.
  • In Windows, run "Windows Update." 
  • On Macs, run "Software Update."
• Keep your Java client current.
  • In Windows, verify your Java version and update if advised to do so.
  • On Macs, Java updates are incorporated into "Software Update."
• Enable Java in your browser only when you need it (such as to use RouteGadget); otherwise, disable Java.
