Meet Director: Kristin Hall
It was a good turn-out for the event, picnic, and AGM, especially given the gloomy forecast. The weather was fairly kind, with no real rain until things were winding down. The Short White was probably the most hotly contested course of the day, with just three seconds separating the top three finishers, and fourth just 20 seconds further back.
The score course kept the advanced folks busy, and enabled some intermediate level orienteers to try some harder controls. The time limit was 70 minutes, with a 5-point-per-minute penalty for being overtime. My apologies for the questionable control placement of #14 on the score course: a couple people found it right away, while many others tried multiple times and never found it. Note to self: if, when course setting, you think "The map is a little funky around here," then don't put a control there! Overall, the vegetation was greener than a few weeks ago when I set the courses, but I hope that everyone got to see at least some nice parts of the Blue Hills. I hope people on the score appreciated the boulder with the tree growing on top of it at #3!
A huge thank you to the many, many people who volunteered and helped, including, but not limited to: Dorina, Andy M., Yana, Katherine, Jim P., Jason, Tani, Jenn, Daphne, Bridget, Faye, Joanne, Justin, Andy H., Keegan, John C., Steve, David, Isla, Helen, Mori, Dashiell, and Julian. And to all the coaches of the youth program, as well. Orienteering is a sport that relies on volunteers, and I am glad to be part of a club with so many cheerful, capable, and willing ones!
