The New England Orienteering Club

Cemetery Hill Training #3
Northampton, MA
May 7, 2014
Meet Director: Phil Bricker

We had perfect weather for the third and final Wednesday evening Cemetery Hill training event. Eleven orienteers, including three first-timers, came out for a fast and furious 2.7k sprint that criss-crossed some of the most detailed parts of the map. John Frey, an on-and-off orienteer over the past twenty years, smoked the course in 25:06. Steve Richardson was second in 27:02, showing once again that accuracy trumps speed in this sport. Third place went to first-time orienteer and local running coach, Eric Nazar, in 29:33.

Five competitors did all three events. The championship for the series went to Steve Richardson in a total time of 1:29:49. In the results below, the first time is for today’s event, the second is the combined time for those who did all three events.

This training series, in my view, was a big success. Though the turnout was modest, those who came were enthusiastic, and wanting to do more.

Thanks to Ken Walker and Steve Richardson for help picking up controls.
