Meet Directors: Bo Nielsen

With its decent map and generally quite open woods, The Nobscot Scout Reservation in Sudbury is usually a popular early spring orienteering destination. The May 4th meet was no exception with a turnout of more than 100 registered starts and up toward 140 active participants. We even had a couple of visitors from CAOC (Chicago Area Orienteering Club), who took 1st on Yellow and 4th on Red!

On the White course, we had the pleasure of introducing a number of boy scout troops as well as other groups to orienteering, many of which proceeded to run the Yellow course, making this the most popular course of the day.

The intermediate-level Orange course proved challenging as it occasionally does. If you found the course either a tad long or a bit to difficult, I hope the extra time in the woods was worth it and still enjoyable.

The advanced Brown, Green and Red courses saw good attendance and close finishes. One minute separated first and second place on Brown, less than 10 minutes between 4th and 13th on Green and Red saw fierce competition with 2 minutes separating 4th from 8th place. Note that the new version of routegadget has some fun options for route choice playback, so go ahead and run to the courses.

A big thank you to all who volunteered their time and helped out. To have such a fine crew of capable people know what to do and when to do it makes a great experience possible for everyone, the meet director included. In no particular order and with complete disregard for what the individual contributions were - Jim Pachetto, Jim and Logan Crawford, Tim Booth, Tim Parson, Richard Powers, Bob Dangel, Ken Menzies, and Joanne Sankus - all stepped up to help where it was most needed at the time. I may have forgotten a name or two and if so, please forgive me and know that your help was very much appreciated, too.
