After a prolonged (20-year?) absence from Wrentham State Forest, NEOC returned on a freshly updated map. Jeff Saeger worked for days to produce the final map, incorporating his mapping work of the summer with mapping done by Karl Stephens in 2000.

Can we add this event to the competition for "Worst Weather EVER"? As the day progressed, volunteers endured rain, cold, gusting wind, sleet, and snow -- more than one veteran referred to "perfect hypothermia weather." This extra challenge kept the number of runners down, and led to a lot of DNFs. (We had glorious weather the following day for control pick-up.)

We directors were too conservative pre-hanging controls (fearing vandalism), which meant that we were hanging controls on the morning of the event when we should have been at the registration table. Many thanks to all the folks who jumped in to get the meet going and keep the wheels turning. Some of you abandoned plans to run, and even defend your Club Championship, so that others could compete. Some of you worked while we were out hanging, so we didn't get your names.

Volunteers make meets happen. Thanks to Peter Amram, Jeff Tingle, Ian Finlayson, Faye Doria, and Andy (Donaldson?) of CSU for working in the wet and cold. Thanks to Jeff Saeger for designing the excellent advanced courses, and for jumping in to help with the last-minute control hanging. Thanks to Michael Commons for designing the Yellow and Sprint courses, and for the loan of a Windows PC. (OCAD & SportIdent don't do Mac.)
