The dismal forecast did not deter 82 participants including 14 newcomers from venturing out to Wadsworth Falls on Sunday. Aside from a short shower as controls were going up and some intermittent sprinkles early on, the rain stayed mercifully away until about ten minutes after the controls were collected. In anticipation of the expected afternoon storms there were many early arrivals, which caused some registration backups.

The Pearsons had their hands full instructing the beginners who made up the bulk of the initial influx including a large contingent of Durham BSA Troop 27. As expected, given the number of beginners, the bulk of the action was on the white and yellow courses. Most of the club regulars went for orange with only four participants on green.

Only Clint Morse and Dan Goddard took the extra challenge of running the green course on the map with no black features included. Peter Frykman was the only one to complete the motola, finishing first on all courses he ran (with time on the white course adjusted for picking up the controls).

Thanks to all the helpers: Lee (Mom) Burnham at registration (who remains amazed that people will actually leave the comfort of their homes ("…from as far away as Natick!") on a day like Sunday to find flags in the woods); Patty Burnham for lunch; Cleo for keeping me company in the woods and only occasionally wrapping her leash around the opposite side of the tree we would run by; Scott and Lisa Chandler for placing controls and assisting with starts; Michael Commons, Jared DiMarco, and Peter for getting the controls before the rain got us; Jared again for working on his subtraction skills at start and finish, and the Pearsons for instruction and everything else they do.
