2003 Massachusetts Scout Orienteering Weekend
October 25 & 26, 2003

The 2003 MA Scout-O had another great fall event! Over 400 scouts and leaders attended both Saturday and Sunday at the Nobscot Scout Reservation in Framingham. To me, what stands out this year is the girls' competitive nature: Winning time on Yellow for both boys and girls was 18 minutes. The first place girls' team on Orange would have placed third if competing in the boys' class. A Woman leader actually won 5th place in the Men's class on Orange!

Three-tiered organization makes this weekend work. Our perennial working group prepares the groundwork. NEOC volunteers oversee the important details of Registration, Starts, Finish and Results. Adult Scout leaders working with girl and boy scouts earning service points for officiating at an orienteering event do the processing of so many teams going out and coming back. Saturday is the training day when you-all noted below provide expert instruction, honing the scouts' competitive skills which come into play on Sunday, the day of competition.
