What a change from last year's meet. We had a cloudy, damp Sunday but no heavy rain fortunately. It was 63 degrees NOT 93 degrees! I think all the runners liked this temperature better. Consumption of lemonade and water was about half that of last year.

Ninety (90) NEOCers and visitors attended and participated in one of the five courses (W,Y,O,G,R). There were 76 starting individuals or groups, two more than last year. This occurred despite the fact that the number of new comers, families and groups running the white or yellow course appeared to be significantly reduced by the cool, damp weather. Many regular NEOCers made up for this by running the lengthy Red or Green courses. The top competitor (William Hawkins) on the Red course certainly showed great speed, endurance and accuracy. The courses appeared to be reasonably challenging as indicated by several comments. They were reasonably long and generally took 60-120 minutes to complete. Major features are accurate but "new" small trails may need checking. The white, yellow and orange courses were designed by Betty Falxa, and the red and green (subset of red) courses were designed and set by Dennis Struble. Thanks to both of them. Demolition and new construction at Nobscot continues to make map updating a challenge. However, most changes are quite obvious in the field and don't present a problem. The Nobscot Scout-O provides an impetus for regularly revising the map and Bob Dangel has continually updated the OCAD file.

Our volunteers were gathered from the Scout-O team: Pete Lane, and Scouts/Scouters from Troop 21 (John, Peter, Nathan, Deb, Dan, Lee, Simon; Cam) who I coerced into helping. We couldn't have done this without them. They continue to think I'm a little "obsessive" about orienteering but it does build self-confidence and navigation skills. With 90 visitors, their help was much appreciated. It got a little hectic at times. Thanks again to all of you. Thanks to the Knox Trail Council, BSA for allowing us to use the facility.

We hope you all enjoyed the day. See you next spring at Nobscot!
