About 65 orienteers braved the 3-4 inches of snow and below-freezing temperature to spend an hour or two (or three) in the woods at Mt. Tom. Courses were on the challenging side, leading to more DNF's than I would have liked. But a fun time was had by (almost) all.

The snow adds an extra dimension to navigational choice. Should you follow the tracks, even when they don't seem to be going the best way? Or should you head out into fresh snow, and try to better the crowd? For some, the strategy was to look for Peter Gagarin's distinctive track: both feet pointing to the right.

I had lots of help. Steve Richardson vetted the advanced courses, and put out lots of controls. Peter Gagarin took over the finish line after his run. Gail Gagarin helped with registration before hers. Barb Bryant and Dave Yee picked up the white controls. Jim Henderson and Rich Nietupski provided instruction.
