Meet Directors: Kristin and Andy Hall

I was hoping for a meet full of beginners and locals, but the weather conspired against us. Instead we had drenching rain, junior training, scout leader training, and a few more brave souls. Still, with 40 people participating it felt like the effort was worthwhile.

Menotomy is a very small area, but it has some fun features. Perfect for setting yellow courses, and the times seem to indicate that yellow was just about right. White was perhaps a bit on the short side (or it is time for Meg to move up…) Ethan tells me that the Short White was great, and my father assures me that he did actually look at his map, which means that it did its job of being just a bit harder than a String-0. By far the hardest part was punching with numb fingers.

It was challenging to set an Orange course that was long enough without too much 'dead running' on paths. The result had runners revisiting some controls ("butterflies"), and doing a lot of short legs. It was definitely more akin to a Park-O than a 'normal orange,' so hopefully it helped the locals get into the right frame of mind for the upcoming CSU Sprint Series! I had contemplated the idea of a second master map for orange - but given the drenching rain, I am definitely glad that I decided against it.

A huge thank you to the volunteers: Joe Sternfeld, Ian Finlayson, Wendy Johnecheck, Scott Meeks, Tony Federer, and Barb Bryant. And also to those who helped out here and there with unloading and packing up. I was impressed with the volunteer spirit of many club members - we actually ended up with more volunteers than we could use! (But thanks to ALL of you who offered to help, whether you ended up doing so or not!) I used to feel that rounding up workers was the hardest part of being a meet director, but you all have proved me wrong - it was not hard at all. Thank you.

And a final thank you to the scout leader who loaned us a tarp when the white canopies showed their lack of waterproofing! It was a life saver.
