We were lucky and had a beautiful beginning to the Memorial day weekend for this event. There were bright blue skies with temperatures in the mid 60s but it was a lot warmer in the sun. It felt more like Colorado than Massachusetts.

In the past 2 years or so there have been extensive trail relocations, so I made map corrections via color copies and had pre-printed maps for all courses. The colors turned out a little strange, with the contours being a reddish-purple and the slow run areas more gray than green, but I thought people would appreciate the trails being in the right place.

Due to rescheduling, I was worried about a small turnout, but had over 150 people show up to run. I actually ran out of yellow maps.

There was a Sprint-O at this meet, which is a mass start event where following is allowed. It was run on the orange course with multiple punches at each control. These mass start events tend to be quite quick and are a good place to see what its like to really run through the woods. Sixteen people ran the Sprint and the CSU crowd had some very fast times. I was predicting a winning time in the low 30 minute range, but William Hawkins finished in just over 29. Hopefully some of the participants liked this event and someone will hold one in the fall.

There were quite a big spread of times on the normal courses. Some people thought the yellow and orange courses were fun, but others thought they were on the hard side

During the meet, the park ranger returned a control that someone found from an older meet, so I thought I was doing well: one control up. However, while picking up the controls, the final white control near the finish area had disappeared: back to even. Someone may have picked up the control and never told me, it was a bit confusing.

On June 13, a group from Hanscom AFB used my yellow course and three of the orange control locations for a combined day off from work/social/physical fitness day. At the May 25th meet, Terry O'Donnell located the yellow control with a GPS unit and used these readings to place the controls for this event. I ran the course in the morning to double check the control points. The teams had a choice of doing just the Yellow or adding in the three orange controls in the middle for a "tangerine" course. Those teams doing the yellow are listed in the results below with AFRL as the club.
