Mother nature gave us an early
morning shower - just enough precipitation to make for some slippery
conditions. Of course, why does it pour as you are putting out
the last of the controls? As usual, the participants were eager
and optimistic - some having checked the radar before arriving!
Fortunately, the rest of the day was mainly cloudy, damp and cool.
It was great to see both boy and girl scout groups participating.
This year we had two finishers for the Get-All course of all
33 controls. I was a bit nervous when 11 o'clock arrived with
no finishers in sight Fortunately, some smiling red-cheeked youngsters
raced to the finish. They must have wondered why their entrance
was greeted with such enthusiasm. I would like to acknowledge
Mike Smith's perseverance on the orange course. He was out for
4 hours, ran out of time but found 11 out of 14 controls. Our
entertainment for the day was hearing about encounters with 'Bucky"
near control 6 on orange. Yes, Ron M. we did arrange with "Rent
an Animal" to have the beaver for the day! It was nice to
hear that some folks on the white course caught sight of a deer.
