The week began with a snowy forecast, but then Saturday, the storm failed to show up, and lots of people turned out, thinking the sun would make it warm.

The Estabrook Map always poses some interesting challenges. In this case, I compensated for a few beavers by adding some blue on the map. I could not begin to show the small pine trees that have grown up in clumps here and there. The hard courses were made easier by the abundance of linear features, stone walls mostly, and there were some impressive times posted.

I want to congratulate one woman who moved up by accident, copying the brown course when she meant to copy the orange course, and successfully finishing. I'm afraid her time probably ended up in the orange listings.

I want to thank the volunteers who made the meet possible. An impressive number of people responded when I still needed volunteers the week before the event, and others showed up and asked if they could help. In the end I had people who had volunteered, for whom I could find no assigment, and I was able to let someone who had volunteered and then developed a conflict off the hook. It's good to know how much support is available. Volunteers include Jeff Leiserson vetting all the courses, Ian Finlayson hanging controls, Caroline Fleming available for instruction, Ceire Fleming, Pia Webb, Hop Holmberg, Dennis Struble and Pete Lane doing start and finish, Marsha Westerberg, Martin Kessels doing registration, Jason Tong, Jim Paschetto, Pete Lane and one other last minute volunteer picking up controls. Tim Parson and Cindy Woolworth also volunteered. Joanne Sankus shuttled equipment. As the director, I appreciate everybody coming in 15 minutes before closing time, and we got all the controls in significantly before dark. Good job on a meet well run.
