Perfect orienteering conditions resulted in over 200 runners (including Cub Scouts) for this late season event. First time meet director and course setter (Ken Krutt and John Hansman) had expected only the hard core to show up in the week after the Traverse were caught off guard by crowd which was lining up before 10AM.

In order to accommodate the large number of people the starts were kept open after the planned 10AM to noon window. The early closing was to planned allow the course to be cleared before sunset. As dark approached, one runner was still not accounted for and a car remained in the parking lot. It was well after dark when the first time oriented was tracked down at his home having abandoned the orange course without checking in.

Apologies to early runners of the Red and Green courses. The control was taken from the first control point and was found elsewhere on the course. Fortunately the control was a definite stone wall junction and the flagging tape was in place so most runners correctly assumed a missing control and continued. The missing control was reported and replaced for the late runners.

As a strategy note, several of the fast runners on the Red course recognized that marshes were runable and made direct crossings across several of the marshes (4-5) (11-finish) which was significantly shorter than the trail alternatives.
