On a fine spring day some 60 to 70 orienteers of varying levels of skill and experience came to run a series of sprint courses in the north-western section of the Blue Hills. The Œbutterfly¹ mass-start event drew 10 competitors at 10:30 and four more in an informal training format later in the day. [A butterfly course consists of two loops which everyone runs but in two different sequences so as to prevent some of the following inherent in a short race.]

The event could not have proceeded without map-making by Bob Dangel, vetting by Jeff and Samantha Saeger, the steady administrative support of Joanne Sankus, and hands-on duties performed by Joe Sternfeld and Joanne Sankus and also by Michael Hughes and Paige Williams, whose charming daughters helped by posting results and creating on-site mud soup for anyone
who desired it.

helped carry cookies and water to the remote Start/Finish.
