NEOC again participated in the annual Recreation Discovery Day at the West Hartford MDC Reservoirs. This event is to make citizens aware of the recreational uses of the reservoir property and the safety regulations for each activity. Orienteering was offered along with bird watching, running races for children, bike riding, roller blading and horse riding demos. Booths were also present containing info on public health, Lyme disease, and animal tracks and scat found on the property.

The courses for the day were originally designed at the Fall CT scout-O by scouts working on the O merit badge. The controls were previously set out for the Dec 7 event that was cancelled due to snow! This Spring, they were put out again. It rained on the day of the event!

Preprinted maps were used to simplify the registration process for the three courses. I confused matters a bit by eliminating one of the score-O controls after the map was printed. JJ went there anyhow and found the streamer from the Fall.
