Our NOD event was included as one of the activities
at the West Hartford Reservoirs' 3rd annual Recreation Discovery
Day. Other activities and demonstrations included bird watching,
fun runs for kids, mountain bike demonstrations and loans, equestrian
demonstrations, and hikes. Since this was an O event for beginners,
we had instructors who served as guides and went with beginners
as they tried their first O course.
Among our participants was a large group from the CT Recreation
Association of the Deaf (CTRAD), a club that is being formed
by Kathleen Moran Doskos, daughter of the late Tom Moran of ROC.
Carol Moran came down from Rochester and served as a guide for
one group.
There were also a reporter and a photographer from the Hartford
Courant among the hikers. We expect an article soon in the Northeast
section of a Sunday Courant.
We thank Brunton for the donation of five compasses that we
gave to participants and baseball caps that were given to some
of our staff. Thanks to our crew of helpers and also the girl
scouts who set up and administered the String-O.
